2014 Year in Review: Greg Mason Burns

This was a huge year for me artistically. I had my first museum and gallery exhibits and produced some of the best paintings I've done. My work has developed in both the abstract and figurative realms, and my style has strengthened. Below is a video of my work in 2014. I hope you enjoy.   You can see the videos on both my youtube and vimeo channels.   https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=D9ZqXCxC1l4 ...

rEvolution: An Exhibit at Museu Guido Viaro

[caption id="attachment_3927" align="alignleft" width="250"] At the Museu Guido Viaro (photo by Nivea Bona)[/caption] The exhibit ended at the Museu Guido Viaro on May 10, 2014, and it was a success for a couple of reasons. One is that I now have two paintings no longer in my possession. Barcelona Rooftops sold to a private collector and Cidade à Noite became a part of the museum's permanent collection. The owner of the museum, Guido Viaro (the grandson of the Brazilian painter of the same name for whom the museum is dedicated to), has been gracious enough with his time to introduce me to...

rEvolution: My First Museum Exhibit

[caption id="attachment_3930" align="alignright" width="287"] Brochure for the exhibit rEvolution. Design by Paulo Negri Filho[/caption] These past few years have been a real struggle. I guess I knew what I was getting into when I left my comfy job in the healthcare finance world, but I didn't know just how challenging the early years would be. In fact, I'm not out of the water yet, but next week marks the beginning of the next step forward. Of course, I hope there are many more steps like this in the years to come. From healthcare finance to a museum exhibit in just a...

Pieces of 2013: an exhibit of my 2013 paintings

[caption id="attachment_3948" align="alignleft" width="304"] Rua Dr Rafael Ribeiro Study IV - Oil on Paper (2013)[/caption] We hung the exhibit and it will begin on February 3, 2014. This is the exhibit that's linked to my Kickstarter Project: Operation Frame. Café Camões is open Mon-Fri until 7pm. It has the best apple pie in Curitiba. Here is the Facebook invite: https://www.facebook.com/events/637498719646236/ What to Look for in a Cafe Exhibiting in cafes is always a bit tricky, because people are there for the food and not for the art. However, they generate a lot of traffic with all different types of clients. Yes, some places...

Ainda Vida – Uma exposição de natureza morta – Hacienda Cafe, Curitiba

[caption id="attachment_3972" align="alignleft" width="170"] The artist with "Artist's Delight" at the Ainda, Vida exhibit[/caption] Due to most of the attendees being Portuguese-only speakers, this post is in Portuguese. You can always translate it (albeit not that great) at http://translate.google.com. Back to English: one...

First Exhibition Success!

[caption id="attachment_4019" align="alignright" width="300"] Turnout for my first exhibition[/caption] Two months ago I was eating at a restaurant with empty walls and thought, "I wonder if I could hang some paintings here." We talked with the owner and he agreed. Last night was the night, and 30 friends and family joined together to help me celebrate my first exhibition. To say that it was a success is an understatement. I thought that maybe I´d sell one painting, two if I was lucky. In the end, I sold four and had two inquiries about future commissions. Not bad for a first exhibition. It...

After Hanging the Paintings

Excited for my first event, I decided grab a few pics after hanging the paintings. I'm looking forward to it. Today I went back to sign a few more paintings knowing that they'd be drier than when I hung them. Later this week we'll put up the labels, prices, information, etc.[/caption] This is my first exhibit in a restaurant, and I'm grateful for the opportunity. I've worked hard to get these first paintings done. I'm self-taught as an artist, so I've had to learn everything from scratch: from how oil mixes with the white background, to how to apply different...
